OUT OF CHARACTER
Name: MJ
IN CHARACTER
Name: Peter Parker Fandom: Marvel Comics Age: 23. Point in Canon: Post the last movie, along with a jumbled mix of comic details. Alignment: Heaven. Brief History: Despite being adopted, Peter could have done far worse for the parents who had replaced his own. Ben and May, his Aunt and Uncle, were good people. They taught him the differences between right and wrong, encouraged his schoolwork, and were always willing to offer an ear whenever their boy chose to approach them with his concerns. When compared to some of the louder and far more unpleasantly upheld families living on the same block, Peter couldn't complain. His family loved him and that was more than anyone could possibly ask for, right? Mostly. He had a great family, he had good grades, but his reputation for being a scrawny science geek was hard to ignore. Most of his days wandering the halls of high school were turned sour when Flash Thompson turned humiliating Peter into part of his daily routine. He might have been smart enough to know that it was to be expected among people of his age, but that didn't stop Peter from wishing that he clung to a higher rung on the popularity ladder than he did. Being a teenager in itself was tough. The experience only got more complicated after he went from biology twerp to mutated freak.
It was the visit to a science exhibition that changed his life forever. Engulfed in his duty to take photographs of what the exhibition contained for the school paper, Peter remained distracted long enough for an escaped radioactive spider to bite him. The bite was effective, but rather than harming Peter's health, the venom from the spider actually modified it. He discovered that he had abilities that could easily be compared to that of a spider, none of which he was able to balance out and use properly without putting in a lot of practice. Deciding that the abilities were given to him for a reason, Peter entered a wrestling contest in hopes of winning money to buy him a car that was both capable of wooing women and making him more popular. The match was won, but Peter was cheated out of the money by the show's greedy manager. Angered by the scam, Peter does nothing when the manager is robbed immediately afterward. He even stands by and watches the criminal escape with the money in hand without lifting a finger to stop him. Believing that he was justified in his own right, Peter only finds that later his Uncle is murdered in cold blood by the same man that he allowed to escape. The death of his Uncle inspired Peter to put his newfound powers to use by going after the criminals of New York City rather than the fame, wealth, and opportunity that he sought out before. Modifying the costume that he wore for the wrestling match, Peter Parker took on an alternate identity, becoming what the Big Apple came to know as Spider-Man.
Peter had always been a lot more mature than the people his age back in high school. That didn't necessarily mean that he still didn't have room to do a lot of growing up. Being out in the big city, throwing Spider-Man out into the heart of crime with all that he had - it wasn't easy. Ranging from every day crooks to big villains like the Green Goblin, Sandman, Mysterio, Doc Oc, Rhino, and Lizard, Peter learned a lot about himself, his opponents, and the world through his battles - between both his victories and his losses. Juggling his home life with his superhero alter ego, Peter adapted to the lifestyle of a vigilante after exercising plenty of caution and practice. Having been talented at photography in high school, he carried it on into his career; J. Jonah Jameson, the editor of the Daily Bugle never failed to give him a hard time, yet he had no qualms in paying up when it came down to Peter Parker being the only photographer within the city of New York who was able to get quality pictures of the city's alleged masked menace. Using that opportunity to his advantage, Peter did his best to keep a roof over his head and food in his stomach as he fought crime and attended college.
When all of his life seemed to be running smoothly, it was only natural that the worst possible series of events had decided to hit him full on. Having been infected by an alien symbiote that altered his personality and costume, Peter found himself being tormented by the darker part of his personality until he forced himself to rip away the symbiote infected costume and replace it with one that didn't have any hold over him. Unfortunately, the process released the symbiote out into the city where, in return, it struck someone who was far less interested in playing nice as he was. Venom attacked Peter viciously and would have had the upper hand if Peter's best friend, Harry Osborn, hadn't showed up in time wearing his fathers former Green Goblin gear. Together they battled Venom, but only Peter survived after defeating the monster. It had been another hard lesson learned, one that both Spider-Man and Peter Parker used to motivate themselves in making the world a better place.
That all changed when he was out swinging through the city on criminal watch one evening. His surroundings changed, the world got fuzzy, and the next thing he knew he was lying flat on his back with nothing more to his name than the webbed costume clinging to him in the middle of Lawrence, Kansas.
